Not The Same

My September, Southern Living magazine arrived yesterday.
Long ago I noticed that Southern Living is not like it was a few years ago.
The 'old' SL was a large, stapled publication, filled with great ideas to inspire decorating, renovation, gardening, cooking, healthy living & much more.
The 'new' SL is thin & in my opinion filled with too many advertisements.
There are still decorating ideas & recipes, but nothing compared to the way it was.
I thought this full page ad for a new game show was funny.
Now, that should be entertaining.
I wonder if it will be like a good old fashioned Bible drill from my childhood?

I still look forward to getting my Southern Living in the mail, especially the October, November & December editions, I just wish it was like it was back in the day.

Hi Carol..
I agree with you!
A lot of the magazines are getting that way.
And they wonder why no one buys their publications any more...

Enjoy these last few days of summer.

Smiles :)

Guideposts and Reader's Digest to add to the list.
If they removed the ads, there wouldn't be so much weight for postage? :-)

I have to say that I love Southern Living, but I also agree with you! They're significantly thinner than they used to be. :/ I'd love to see them beef it up a little more. I still love the travel and recipe pages. The cover always look nice on my coffee table, ha!
Blessings,
Leslie

I thought the same thing when I read mine last night! I kind of miss the days when all the recipes came from a person's home. The recipes mostly now come from the Test Kitchen. Also, the decorating is beautiful but doesn't reflect my taste as much as it used to...that might mean I'm aging. :)

I do love to get magazines in the mail. When you are looking forward to something so much, it can be so disappointing if there is any kind of let down. Too much technology. People are buying less and less newspapers and magazines and reading them more on line. Or replacing them all together with sources like pinterest. I am sure they are suffering. Still, to me, nothing like a magazine!!

Carol, I just saw this post. I agree with you...there's something that's "different". I used to love Southern Living; and then, something changed. I didn't renew my subscription for a few years and decided to try it again. After reading the past 3-4 issues, I may cancel again. I love Southern Lady, however!
