Decorating With Hedge Apples

Last week, my hubby brought home 2 bags of hedge apples that he found while he was out & about on the job.
 Facts about hedge apples.
I remember my grandma Ruby using them in her closets to keep bugs away.

I got busy yesterday adding some hedge apples to our fall decor.
I love the bright green color of hedge apples.
This is the wooden box that Kari's sister & brother in law made for me.  I added a few apples for a pop of color.
I wrapped scrap paper strips to some apples on the mantel.

Ribbon adds a little glam to these hedge apples.
in the dining room . . .
and in the powder room . . .
And finally . . .
a funny little pumpkin on top of an apple to make a topiary.

Come back tomorrow to see all the Halloween bling around our house.

We had our Hedge tree removed earlier this year. It produced dozens of them. They are a pretty green.

I love your Hedge Apple decor! Years and years ago I parked my brand spanking new car under one and got a sizable dent on the roof when one of them fell. I was thinking of that tree a awhile back, event meant to visit it to score some Hedge Apples -- with my car safely parked away...definitely going to visit now.

I had never heard of hedge apples until yesterday and here I find them again. They have so much texture and vivid color. Can you eat them?

I love your hedge apples, Carol! I am living in an area now {Ohio} where there are hedge apples. Last year we moved from Long Island, where we don't have those. It's funny to see your post because I've been looking for some on my neighborhood walks, but I'm guess this area is too new and the particular trees they come from are not in here. Can I ask, what kind of tree should I be looking for to find these? I love them and would love to add them into my decor. Thanks!

I never thought about decorating with them. Around here we call them Osage oranges or Bois d'arcs! Squirrels are supposed to love them. I've heard the seeds are edible, but quite difficult to get to. I like the way you added them to our fall decor!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Love your hedge apple decor! They are all over the ground around here. I love seeing how people use them in their fall decor. You really dressed yours beautifully!

Love the color and texture of hedge apples, but not the smell of one rotting! I never had any luck with them deterring spiders, either...

How clever using the hedge apples in your decor. I'll be on the lookout, love the topiary.

Cute job decorating with those!

They are from an Osage orange tree. We use them as fake brains at Halloween. This is a great way to use them and not scare the kids.
