Preparing For A Big Snowstorm . . .

How do you prepare for a snowstorm?
We've stocked up our pantry & fridge
with all kinds of goodies.

We might get a foot of snow!
Sleet & ice before the snow starts.
Falling temperatures into the teens & strong winds.
Single digits overnight.
Hope we don't lose power!
What's your favorite cold weather comfort food?
I'm going to make a big pot of chili tomorrow.

Soaking Up The Sun . . .

It's beautifully warm today!
62 degrees.
Oh, yes!

When I noticed the sun streaming through
my kitchen window I knew I wanted to
venture outside and snap a few pictures.

Our deck . . .

Little country church behind our house . . .

Ornamental grass in our front yard . . .

Frosty flag blowing in the breeze
reminding me . . .

the weather forecast says we can
expect several inches snow of next week.

Fun With Babies . . .

I had such a good time yesterday when
Kari, Ethan, & Ethan's cousin, Levi
spent the day hanging out with me.

"What are you doing in my nap time bed?"

Levi is 5 months old.
Such a sweetie!

Ethan still wanted to take his turn in the baby seat.
Do you think he might be a little jealous!
Surely not!

He loves playing in these cabinets.
Who needs toys when you can play
with plastic bowls!

I'm Old School . . .

I've been hearing on the news that some experts
are saying that writing in cursive is obsolete.
Some school systems are taking it out of
their curriculum.
WHAT?!?!

What would my elementary teachers
Mrs. Young (3rd grade), Mrs. Jefferson (4th grade)
, & Mrs. Claude (5th grade) think about this news?
As a retired elementary teacher I'm sad to hear this.
To me cursive writing is an art form.
I can't help it. I'm old school, which means I'm old.
Oh well, the times are changing.

I Finally Did It . . .

I didn't think I'd ever do it . . .

I finally joined Facebook!

There was no pressure from anyone.

My hubby has been on Facebook for quite a while.

He received a friend request from one of my friends

I haven't heard from in years.

This got me to thinking I may be missing out.

Hello, 21st century!

Slip Slidin' Away . . .

When hubby walked out to get the newspaper early
this morning he discovered that the snow
that fell overnight is covered with ice.
I'm sure the area school kids are
excited they get to stay home today.
They're going to be disappointed
they won't be able to build a snowman
or throw snowballs.

Random Monday Memories #10 . . .

Freeze Dried Laundry . . . .
While I was growing up Monday was always laundry day.
During the winter the windows were steamed over
with condensation which meant Mother was making
beans for dinner. She would also make cinnamon twists for dessert.
I didn't like beans too much but I always ate them because
I knew our house was not a short order cafe.
Now, the twists were another story!
So yummy!
I think that was the beginning of my carb addiction!
We did not have a clothes dryer, so this meant
even in cold weather the laundry was hung outside
on the clothesline. Of course when it was 32 degrees or colder
the clothes froze on the line.
As you might imagine laundry day was hard work in those days.
And for 5 people that's a lot of laundry.

The cold, stiff clothes were strung on a wooden drying rack
that was sitting on the floor furnace.

Tuesday was ironing day, but that's a story for another Monday.

Little Red Wagon . . .

I'm wishing for warmer weather . . .

so we can pull Ethan around
in the Radio Flyer wagon we gave him for Christmas.
These pictures were taken at the end of
December when it was warm.

He loves to go fast & squeals with delight.
He is holding his little sister, Emma, doll.
It won't be long until he has to share
the spotlight with Emma.

First 2011 Snow . . .

I knew this first snowfall of the season would
not amount to much. The weather forecasters
said so, and they were right.

The snow started Sunday with light flurries.
That evening before dinner I took this
picture of the dining room.
The glow of the lighting gave off a warm & cozy feel.
Hubby grilled some steak.
It looks so funny to see him grilling while
wearing a hat and coat.
The snow kept coming down on Monday.

I took this picture Tuesday morning.
The wind was blowing this ornamental grass.
Burr-r-r!
The high temperature yesterday was 24.

We may have a chance of more snow on Monday.

Bye Bye . . .

I visited the Dr. yesterday and got some good news.

I no longer have to take insulin, just oral medication twice a day.
The Dr. thinks in time I won't even have to take pills.

Woo-hoo!

It's been a rough road since October 6th.
I'm so thankful for improved health!

Ready For The Attic . . .

I'm always sad to see all the Christmas bling
come down.

(sorry this pic is blurry)

This year I didn't do any decorating upstairs.

Even though I got rid of a lot of Christmas stuff
in our Fall garage sale I still need to sort
and purge more things in the storage tubs in the attic.
It does feel good to scale down.
