A Dirty Deal

I am so thankful for my clothes dryer & I bet your feel the same way.

I've had this little sign in my laundry room for over 25 years.

Okay, people, listen up to this public service announcement!

Clean your dryer vents!!!

I had known for several weeks that ours needed cleaning because it was taking forever for a load of laundry to dry.

Sunday afternoon, Hubby & I decided to tackle the job.  

It was a dirty deal!  

This is the first amount we dug out.  We pulled a HUGE amount of lint from the outside vent.  It looked like someone had been shearing sheep. When we finished, the trashcan was 1/2 full.  Hubby said we were lucky that there hadn't been a fire.

We also took the lower panel off the front of the dryer & thoroughly cleaned this area.

Don't forget to wash the lint trap.  Residue from dryer sheets clogs up the mesh.  Let it air dry before placing it back in the dryer.  

Now, the clothes dry faster, which means we're saving energy.

Next time we clean the dryer we're going to buy this nifty little tool to make the job easier.

Dining Room Updates

I've done a few tweaking updates on the dining room side tables.  I'm getting ready for turkey day in two weeks.

The little black cabinet moved from the kitchen into the dining room.

Grandma Ruby's cake stand with a mini soup tureen.

The other side table vignette.

I'm really enjoy this home plaque that I found for $8.00 last week on my junkin' trip.  

"Where we love is home.  Home that our feet may leave but not our hearts."

The saying reminds me of the home I grew up in.  

First Winter Blast

The first winter blast came roaring in last night.

It is very cold & windy this morning.  At least the sun is shining.  I thought our flaming red maple would be missing many leaves this morning.  But, as you can see it's still full of color. 

Our flaming red maple has weathered many challenges.  Ice, snow & tornadic storms the last 9 years have taken some of its branches.  A storm this past spring took out a limb & left a huge gap.  The top is finally filling in after it was damaged in an ice storm 6 years ago.  

Our deck is now bare of  our warm weather plants & flowers.  We brought in the hibiscus tree & put it upstairs in the office.  Hopefully it can survive the long winter inside a warm house.

We planted these pansies Sunday afternoon.

I've always wondered why a weak person is called a pansy because the pansy flower is strong enough to survive a cold winter.

Fabulous Friday

Oh, what a beautiful day!  Gorgeous blue sky & crisp air.

I took a few pictures in the front yard this morning.

Our flaming red maple is showing off its autumn color.

The flowers are hanging in there, even though we've had some frosting mornings.

The best part of the morning was getting a surprise phone call from my, Uncle Jack.  It was good to hear his happy voice.  He seems to be doing well & adjusting to his new residence.

Mini Shelf Transformation

My sister, Susan, is an expert at redoing items that she finds at flea markets & antique malls.  Yesterday, I showed you a little $1.25 shelf that we found at an antique mall.  Sis Sue got busy & transformed the shelf before we went to dinner.

She started by cutting off the lower portion of the shelf.  The shelf is now a cabinet that measures 10 X 10.

Next, she used a hairdryer to soften the glue that was on the back of the apples so they could be removed.

We found a can of red spray paint in the garage.  A quick coat of paint changed the shelf into a cute cabinet.

  Susan always brings gifts that she knows my grandkids will enjoy.  Sometimes she brings books or toys. On this visit she brought an adorable collection of plastic cups, bowls, plates, forks & spoons that she had found on some of her shopping trips in Missouri.

Look at this sweet little kid sized napkins she made.

She also brought this fun food tablecloth that she made.

It features the food groups.

I know that Ethan & Emma are going to love playing with the little cabinet & dishes.  Snacks & meals will be fun with the tablecloth.  

Thank you, Susan, for all the love you share with my grandkids.

Susan & Mike left at day break this morning to drive to Houston to visit sister, Mary & her family.  Have fun, give everyone a hug for me!

Junkin' & Antweaking

Today was a fun day of shopping at some antique malls with Sis Sue & Mike.

I found these treasures at River City Trading Company.

The vintage spatula ($5.99) & pitcher ($2.99) are in perfect condition. I think the spatula will be perfect for cookie baking. The letters were $1.60 each.  I think I'm going back for more.

This home plaque was a steal at $8.00.

As I am typing,Sis Sue is "antweaking" this little shelf.  It only cost $1.25!  In fact, everything in the booth was $1.25!  Amazing!  I just couldn't find any treasures that I couldn't live without.  

At our last stop I bought this vintage ice bucket for 1/2 price, $9.00.  Every item was 1/2 price in that booth. 

Come back tomorrow to see the magic that Sis Sue performed on the $1.25 shelf.  You will be amazed!
