It seems that in today's busy world with all its knowledge and new technology, many people are overlooking the importance of developing good character. In bygone days, it went without saying that neighbors helped neighbors and a man's words was his bond. Children learned good characteristics by the examples set before them in their parents and teachers.


This is still the best way to produce good character. God's plan is for us to be wise and develop positive character traits not only in our own lives but also in the lives of our children and those we influence. Don't make the mistake of thinking this can be accomplished overnight. It takes time and determination, but the end product is priceless.

I felt very old when I found this

in the mail on Thursday.

Oh how I loved the Andy Griffith Show when I was a kid. I always enjoy the reruns whenever I can find them. Happy Days was one of my favorites too. Wish someone would start producing this type of wholesome sit-com during prime time these days!

4 Months Old . . .

Ethan is 4 months old today.

He has been working on his roll over technique.

Step 1

Try to figure out how to move the right
arm out of the way.



It won't be long until he masters the art
of rolling over!

The Heat Is On . . .

Summer has arrived in Oklahoma!

Temps are predicted to be in the 100s

for the rest of the week.

I remember the dog days of summer when I was a kid.

We had no air-conditioning at home.

Really very few places had air-conditioning.

Some people relied on window water coolers.

Do you remember fans like this?

My mother would keep us inside after lunch & we would lounge

around in the living room near the water cooler

with the blinds closed.

We also enjoyed running through the water sprinkler to keep cool.

I wanted one of these slip 'n slides so much.

Kool-Aid was a big treat!
Mother would also make popsicles in ice trays with toothpicks.

Summer's First Harvest . . .

Our 'Victory Garden 2009'

is growing & thriving.

We picked our first okra harvest on Saturday.

Count 'em, 8 okra spears!

Just enough to fry up for a yummy side

dish for tonight's supper.

A Legacy Of Love . . .

Father's Day brings to mind a legacy of love

through the generations.

Here I am with my Daddy, Gerald,

and my Mother, Helen,

soon after my birth.

Oh, how I've missed him the past 21 years

since his passing.

Bob became a proud Daddy to our
son, Bobby, in 1981.
What a wonderful father he has been!

The legacy of love continued on February 25, 2009
when our son became a Daddy to Ethan.

Saturday Garage Sale Shopping . . .

Well, I had high hopes & expectations Saturday morning when I went garage sale shopping with Bob & Kari. I am looking for items to paint with chalkboard paint & other things that I can re purpose & use in general for the home. I had been disappointed earlier in the week when I stopped by Goodwill & didn't see anything that I could use. There really wasn't much there at all! Anyhoo, I didn't find one single thing during our Saturday morning adventure. Kari found some nice things for their home, throw rugs, a basket, & a salad spinner. Bob even walked away with a hose reel & a nearly new smoker for Bobby & Kari's house. He's going to teach Bobby the art of smoking meat!

When we got home Kari found an over sized chair & ottoman with a fold out bed on Craig's list. We all hopped in the pickup & went to check it out. The girl wanted $100.00, but was willing to sell it for $80.00. Great bargain!

One of the ladies that was having a garage sale on Saturday gave us a flier about an indoor estate sale that she's having starting Thursday morning at 7:00. I'm hoping Kari & I can check it out. I'm determined to find some great things for my chalkboard painting project!

It almost looks too pretty to eat!

Out With The Old, In With The New . . .

Late Friday night while I was waiting for hubby to get home from work I kept hearing a weird clicking noise in the kitchen. I finally figured out that the clicking was coming from the refrigerator. When I opened the freezer I discovered the food was thawing out. Oh no!! When Bob got home he checked out the situation & determined that the compressor was out. We loaded up all the food & took it to Bobby & Kari's house around 12:00 AM.

On May 30 we had a power outage for about 2 hours. The power went on & off quickly several times. Last week we had another outage & power surges. We are pretty sure this is what fried the compressor.

Our old Whirlpool fridge was at least 10 years old, maybe older, we can't remember when we bought it. We spent most of the day Saturday shopping for a new refrigerator. After running all over town checking out the options we finally made a decision.

We bought this Samsung, French door fridge at Lowe's. It was delivered Sunday afternoon. We're still learning how to use all the fancy features. So far we love it!

No More Monitor ! ! !

by the doctor that Ethan

no longer needs to wear the apnea monitor!

Now he's got no strings to hold him down!

25 years ago a beautiful baby girl was born

to proud parents, Tim & Carol.

When she was 21 years old she married

our son, Bobby. Finally we had

a daughter. She blessed us with our precious

grandson, Ethan, 3 months ago.

Perhaps you're at work dealing with disgruntled coworkers or customers . . . or at home, dealing with belligerent children. Instead of giving up in despair, thank God for the opportunity you've been given to exhibit His love. Then take a moment to look into their faces and give thanks for them.

Giving thanks for people who sometimes cause you problems increases your appreciation for each person as God's totally unique creation. It's a reminder that even the difficult people around you have been places on this earth to fulfill a God-given destiny and are, therefore, precious in His eyes.

This is hysterical !!

To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,

Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,

Bundles of magazines tied up in string,

VBS Memories . . .

Early this morning when I woke up it was cool & rainy.

This sparked a memory of Vacation Bible School when I was a child.

VBS at our little Baptist church began the week

after Memorial Day & was a two week event.

None of our mothers worked out of the home

so they were experts of dedicating themselves to VBS.

I remember the first few days of VBS always being rainy & cool.

Here are a few of my memories of Vacation Bible School.

* Lining up on the front steps of the church for the grand entry

* Pledging allegiance to the American & Christian flags

* Memorizing scripture verses

* Fruit punch served in jelly glasses & homemade cookies

* Playing games on the church lawn

* Arts & crafts projects

One year when I was about 10 years old we made a rooster
on a large piece of plywood out of seeds.
Believe me, we needed the full two weeks to complete the project!

Now in the 21st century most churches have streamlined VBS.
Some hold VBS in the evening after parents get off work.
Now Mom & dad can both be part of the fun.
