Chairs~August Note Card Party

Once again it's time for Vee's Note Card Party.
A Haven for Vee
I chose chairs as the theme for my note cards.
I love little chairs.
These chairs bring to mind a simpler time.
I imagine these chairs were used in a classroom at a school or church.

Hoosier Cabinet

I love our Hoosier cabinet.
We have had it for about 30 years.
I had lunch a few weeks ago with my friend, Pam, whose dad found this for us.  He found it in a lady's shed, covered in two coats of paint & mud dauber nests.  $25.00.  Pam & her brother, David, helped us refinish it.  Pam's dad, got me started on the project.  Pam & David, who were teenagers in our church youth group, would come to our house on Saturdays to help us get it finished.  I can't even begin to remember how many hours it took to finish the job.  Many!  We had fun working on the project.
Through the years I have enjoyed decorating it with different vignettes.

This cabinet is a treasure.
Thank you Pharis family for making it possible.

I'm On A Mission

I have been taking inventory of the food I have in the freezer & pantry.  I'm on a mission to use what I have on hand to create meals.  I'm calling this . . .
source
I started Saturday night by using the crock pot to cook a nice beef roast for Sunday dinner.  It cooked all night long.  It smelled so delicious.  I added lots of seasonings & topped it with lots of minced garlic.  Very yummy!
How many of you have some of this blue & white vintage corning ware?
Our side dish was steamed veggies from the freezer.  We will have leftovers for dinner tonight with a nice green salad.  Tuesday night we'll have a beef/vegetable soup.  If there are still leftovers on Wednesday I will make beef enchiladas.

I'll be making crock pot chicken & dressing for our family dinner on Thursday.
Click here to find the link to the recipe.

Stay tuned for updates & other recipes I'll be making in the weeks to come.
It should be fun.

Words That Inspire

And it is impossible to please God without faith.
Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists
and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Pinterest Recipe Reviews

I've been wanting to make a baked spaghetti dish for family dinner night.
I found this recipe on Pinterest.  The title, Baked Pizza Spaghetti, caught my attention.  Our family loves pizza.  Click here for the recipe.  I used whole wheat pasta, love that.
I used another Pinterest recipe for the marinara sauce. It's a crock pot recipe.  Yea, for my crock pot!

I substituted fresh tomatoes for the canned tomatoes.  I put them in the Ninja & made them into sauce.

Excuse the blurry pic, I'm still using my phone as a camera until I can find a new one.
It turned out great & everyone loved it.  We also have leftovers for another meal.  I like leftovers, it's a good thing.

Back To School

Today is the first day of school in the town where I taught for 30 years.
I have to admit, this is the first time since my retirement in 2008, that I have had a twinge of longing to be back in the classroom.
I have seen several "first day of school" pictures on Facebook this morning.
Smiling faces of eager children & one cute, sad face of a former student, who was sending her son to his first day of pre-K.

To the teachers & staff who work so faithfully to educate our children,
I will be praying for you as a new school year begins.
You may never know what seeds of learning & love you are planting.  Someone in your classroom this year may be a future doctor, nurse, preacher, teacher, lawyer, construction worker, mom, dad, the list goes on and on.  Every year I taught I tried to remember that I could make a difference in a child's life. O yes, as you can imagine there were times that this was hard to remember.
Good luck teachers & students!

She's So Talented

My sister, Susan, is so talented.
She just finished upholstering this great chair she found in the basement of a junk store in her town.
It was made by Conant Ball Furniture Company of Gardner, Massachusetts.  She paid $25.00.  I've never seen a wing back chair with wooden arms & sides, very unique.
She took off all the original upholstery & refinished the wood.
She found some great $6.00 a yard fabric at Hancock's Fabric.
The finished chair!  Isn't it fabulous?  It has that Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware look.  I love it!  Great job, Sis Sue!

Make The Days Count

I love my Marty Engelbreit calendar.  One sat on my desk for many years when I was teaching. Hubby always gives me one for Christmas.
Now that I'm retired the calendar sits on the window shelf above my kitchen sink.
I enjoy seeing the cheerful pictures & sayings that Mary creates.
I love today's quote . . .
Hope you're making today count!

Coconut Cake

I made a coconut cake for Hubby's birthday dinner.
It was easy peasy.
I just added about 1 1/2 cups of coconut to the cake mix batter.
Butter cream icing was easy, too.
1 can vanilla icing, 1/2 cup butter, 4 ounces cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla.
After the cake was frosted I covered it with more coconut.
Hubby blowing out the candles.
I don't think anyone liked it.
Hee Hee!!

Sister Landscapers

My little sisters are so talented.  Not only are they great home decorators, they also do a fantastic job of landscaping their yards.
Here's what sister Mary's yard & decks look like, way down south in Houston, Texas.
Mary & her Hubby Howard live in a 3 story townhouse.
Old glory is proudly displayed on the 2nd story balcony.
The entrance gate with beautiful azaleas.
She recently added this fountain.
1st story patio
Mary created this pretty flowerbed at her daughter's home.
Up in Missouri, sister, Susan & her Hubby Mike live in a beautiful new home.
Don't you just love the front door?
back door patio
Can you see the cute toy truck & tractor in the back yard flowerbed?
I just love the little gnome tucked in among the flowers?

Thank you for visiting today.  Hope you have a terrific Thursday!
