Flying Pig Finds

Last week I discovered an interesting shop on Facebook.
The Flying Pig Vintage Market in Owasso, Oklahoma.
I saw this adorable buffet that had been marked down.
Photo: can't believe this piece is still here! Just marked 25% off! Was $225......now only $169! Call if you want it! 918-724-4090
My sister, Susan & her hubby Mike decided to drive down from Missouri for a quick one day visit.
Here are the great things I bought.
the buffet
vintage grater, tureen, old spring

blue children's chair

Shopping at this charming shop was a blast.  Their selection is great & the prices are SO reasonable!

Words That Inspire

One simple message today.
It was a difficult week.
Boston
Tornadoes in Oklahoma
West, Texas
The list goes on & on . . .

This scripture always stirs up a memory of our family huddled in a closet when I was a child because of an approaching tornado.  My little sister, Mary, quietly repeated a scripture that she had memorized.
"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee."

Wishing you a Sunday filled with reassurance . . .

Friday Show & Tell

Welcome to Friday Show & Tell!
The purple box . . .
I found this box that belonged to my parents while I was getting ready for our garage sale.  They used it to store important papers & documents.
It contains many interesting things.
These are a few of the items.
birth certificates
immunization records for me & my 2 sisters
our college grade reports
Mother & Daddy's marriage license
sale receipt for a new 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air, $3899.66
This instruction book for a hair dryer made me laugh.

canceled checks
$100 for the dining room furniture they bought from the people we bought our house from in 1963.
I remember well what Mr. Wolff said in his German accent, "A hundred dollars, yours!"
$675 for a 1965 Opal Cadet
Notice that these checks were not personalized.
Back in the day when you wanted to write a check for a purchase you would tell the merchant what your bank was & they would hand you a blank check to fill out & sign your name.
Some of my Daddy's treasures . . .
rings, pocket knife, tie clip
You may not be able to see that the tie clip is a basset hound.
He liked to refer to himself as a shoe dog because they owned a shoe store.
Here is an extra key to the store.
The napkins were used at their wedding in 1948.
A ticket stub from an opera I sang in my junior year in college.
My Mother's war ration book registration, she was 12 years old.

I felt like an archaeologist while I was looking at these items.
A glimpse of the history of my family.
Priceless.

What A Night

Our evening started out very normal.
Dinner & watching the OKC Thunder Basketball game.
We got a message from our son, who was at church practicing with the praise team that he wanted us to pick dinner for Kari & the kids.  Ethan had been feeling bad all day.
Shortly after we arrived at their house Kari decided to take Ethan to urgent card.
Hubby went with Kari & Ethan & I stayed with Emma.
Ethan was diagnosed with an ear infection.  The strep test came back negative.
We didn't get home until 11:30.
A few minutes later we heard the sirens blaring.
We made our way to our fraidy hole.
You slide back the door & climb down the stairs.
We were down there for almost an hour.
The reports we were getting said there were tornadoes a couple of miles from us.
The thunder & lightening was relentless & the rain was a constant downpour.
I finally went to bed around 1:30.
This morning I saw TV coverage of the damage in the area & flooding.
I feel blessed that we were spared from any storm damage.
Also, I am relieved to hear that Ethan is feeling so much better today.

My Playlist Music

Yesterday I discovered that Playlist was available again to be added to my blog.
I have not idea how long this has been available, but I'm so glad it is.
Sometimes I let it play while I'm cleaning, cooking, or relaxing.
I realize some folks don't like music on blogs.
If you fall in that category just simply click on the mute feature on the Playlist on my sidebar.

For me, this says it all about music.
I know you're praying along with me for the victims of the Boston terror attack.
God bless you all.
XOXO

Apple Oatmeal Crunch

I'm sure you have heard the saying, "Waste not, want not.".
I put that into action yesterday.
I had several apples that were almost ready for the disposal.
This yummy recipe is one I've used for years.
I think the reason I like it so much is because you don't have to make a crust.
It comes from this recipe book that belonged to my Mother.
Grandma Ruby gave it to her after one of her trips to visit her sister, Charlene, in Oregon.
After peeling the apples I cut off the ends to make it easier to cut them into wedges with this nifty little gadget.
Put apples (4 cups), sugar ( 3/4 cup), and 2 Tablespoons flour in a 9 inch buttered baking dish.
Mix 1/2 cup packed brown sugar & 1/2 cup flour, then cut in 1/2 cup butter.
Add 2/3 cup rolled oats & 1 Tablespoon cinnamon.
BTW, did you know you can buy this big container of cinnamon at $ tree?
Put this over the apples.
Bake for 1 hour at 300.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Apple Oatmeal Crunch
4 cups sliced cooking apples
 3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
 1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup rolled oats or 1 minute oats
1 Tablespoon cinnamon

Put apples, sugar, and 2 Tablespoons flour in a 9 inch buttered baking dish.  Mix brown sugar and 1/2 cup flour; then cut in the butter.  Add the oats and cinnamon.  Put this over the apples and bake for 1 hour at 300. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.  This is also good cold.

If you try it, I hope you like it!
