Weekly Words To Live By #3 . . .

Leisure does body

and soul good.

~ German saying ~

Hope you're taking the time to relax today . . .
After all, Sunday is a day of rest . . .
Remember, even God rested on the 7th day . . .
Genesis 2:2-3
(New International Version)
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Random Monday Memories # 3 . . .

A one and a two . . .

I was quite young when I started watching
the Lawrence Welk show on Saturday nights.

I loved the music, the themed shows, and
dancing with my sister on a throw rug.
We weren't allowed to dance around
on the freshly waxed floor, but we didn't mind
because dancing on the rug was slippery fun!

I loved listening to the close harmony of the Lennon Sisters.

Watching them through the decades gave me
pointers on hair styles and fashion.

Oh, to look like the girls in the choir!
You can certainly tell that they're
wearing 70s dresses in this picture.

This guy was a whiz on the accordion, amazing.

I could never forget Jo Ann Castle.
Her piano playing impressed me so much.
My piano teacher, Mrs. Scott, taught me several songs
out of Jo Anne's piano book.
I still have it in my attic. Maybe I should dig it out
and brush up on my honky tonk technique.
Thank you for walking down memory lane with me today!

Random Monday Memories # 2 . . .

Today's memory is fitting for the week
leading up to Easter.
Dying Easter eggs was always a lot of fun
for me when I was a child.

I started getting excited when my Mother
bought a kit at the grocery store or Woolworth.
We always dyed the eggs the
day before Easter.

Mixing the vinegar & color tablets in small glasses
was always smelly, but I didn't mind
because I knew it would be worth it in the end.

My favorite colors were purple, pink, and aqua blue.

Watching the magic a wax crayon could create was so amazing.

Of course nothing could compare with hunting Easter
eggs over and over again!

Having a big basket filled with pretty eggs was the best!

Do you have sweet memories of Easter egg making?

Rabbits Slowly Emerging . . .

The snow from our weekend storm has melted away.
It's finally time to deck the house with Easter goodies.

The first rabbit brave enough to emerge from his winter hiding place is Mr. Bosley Reed. Some of you who have been reading my blog for a while may remember him. He has been trying to coax the other cute rabbits & bunnies to come out and play with him. Hopefully they will all be in their special places by the end of the week. I'm predicting they'll be ready for 'Friday Show & Tell'.

Random Monday Memories #1 . . .

For several weeks I've been thinking about doing a regular post about my memories. Last Monday while I was visiting Marie
I read her post 'Random Monday Memories'. I loved the title for the post. I emailed Marie asked her if she would mind me using the same title.
She graciously agreed to let me use her idea!
Thank you Marie!

The town I grew up in had an interesting hardware store filled to the brim with a variety of items. I loved to browse through Billings Hardware. I especially liked to look at the toys & dolls. The Poor Pitiful Pearl doll intrigued me.

Pearl had a plain face. You've heard the expression,
"She was so ugly , she was cute."
Pearl came complete with a simple calico dress . . .
and a fancy little dress so she could transform into a vision of beauty.
I always secretly wanted to own a Pearl doll.

Another doll I secretly wanted was a topsy turvey Cinderella doll.

This is the closest picture I could find to the Cinderella doll.

One year for my birthday, Grandma Minnie took me to
Billings Hardware to pick out a doll.

I fell in love with this precious Madame Alexander doll.
I was so thrilled that I finally owned a doll
from Billings. She's been with me for all these years.

Thank you for letting me share my memories with you.
Hope you'll visit again next Monday for more memories.

Weekly Words To Live By #1 . . .

We all wonder many many many times over WHY?
Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?"
or "Why did God have to do this to me?"
Here is a wonderful explanation!
A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is
going wrong, she's failing algebra,
her boyfriend broke up with her
and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and
asks her daughter if she would like a snack,
and the daughter says,
"Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."
"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers.
"Yuck" says her daughter.
"How about a couple raw eggs?"
"Gross, Mom!"
"Would you like some flour then?
Or maybe baking soda?"
"Mom, those are all yucky!"
To which the mother replies:
"Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves.
But when they are put together in the right way,
they make a wonderfully delicious cake! "
"God works the same way. Many times we wonder why
He would let us go through such bad and difficult times.
But God knows that when He puts
these things all in His order,
they always work for good! "
"We just have to trust Him and, eventually,
they will all make something wonderful!"
