The Thunder Rolls

I've never really been a fan of professional sports teams until last year when Hubby & I got hooked on Oklahoma City's pro basketball team.
They have young energetic players.
This guys are two of my favorite players.
Kevin Durant
Russell Westbrook

Here they are in the Monday's post game interview.
Love the nerd glasses!

They swept the Dallas Mavericks (last year's NBA champions)
with 4 wins in a row in the first round of the playoffs.
Now they're playing the LA Lakers.
They have won 2 in a row.
Last night was a nail biter.

Thunder Up . . . Friday night in LA!

Tortilla Soup

Today, I'm once again depending on my trusty crock pot to
work it's magic & create a delicious meal.
I posted this recipe a couple of years ago, so for those who
haven't seen it I'm reposting again.
I want to give credit to my sister, Mary, for this recipe.
I have modified it a little from the original recipe she gave me about 18 years ago.
Since I'm trying to use what I have on hand I also changed up things a little for today's soup,

Tortilla Soup

1 can whole corn, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 can stewed tomatoes, 4 cans chicken broth, 1 can Rotel

1  chopped orange pepper & 1 chopped onion

6 chopped chicken breast tenderloins

1 teaspoon black pepper, 2 teaspoons cumin, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce, 4 tablespoons chili seasoning, 1 tablespoon minced garlic

Put all ingredients in crock pot & cook for 8 to 10 hours on low
or 4 to 8 hours on high.
This soup gets better on the 2nd & 3rd day.
It's also great for freezing.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was a great day.
The weather was perfect.
We enjoyed a delicious steak dinner at Freddie's in Sapulpa.
Poor Ethan wasn't feeling well.
He did manage to smile a little.
Emma is so sweet!

We headed to our house for a little outdoor time.
A few weekends ago Hubby & I were going to redo the area around this tree.
I decided to let Hubby & Bobby do the work
 for my Mother's Day gift.
I bought Ethan a pair of  'Cars' work gloves so he could help with the project.
Since he didn't feel well he just wanted to sit in a chair & watch.
I don't think he liked sharing his chair with little sister.

Digging out the rocks was hard work.
The guys took turns digging.
It took a few hours of muscle power & sweat.
Thanks guys, job well done!
I love the new look under the tree!

We also created an outdoor vignette in this area to the left of the tree.
This is the birdbath we gave my Mother many years ago
for Mother's Day.
We also hung two bird feeders on a double shepherd's hook.

Thanks for visiting today.
Hope you come back tomorrow!

One More Week

One week from today my niece, April, will be induced to give birth to Madison.
Exciting!
Here are some photos of Madison's sweet nursery.
Big sister, Elise's bedroom got a makeover to coordinate with Madison's room.
I just love the colors.
My sister's friend, Dorothy, did such a fantastic job sewing the
curtains, dust ruffles, pillows & bedding.

I can't wait to meet Madison!
Elise, you're going to be a wonderful 'Big Sister'!

Weekly Words To Live By #100

Legacy of Love
1930-1998
I cherish the memories of my Mother, Helen.
Her love, kindness, beautiful singing voice, & generous heart are a legacy of love to her family.
 She loved the Lord.
I find sweet comfort in knowing that I will
 see her again in heaven.
I thank God for my wonderful mother.

My Mother taught me so much in her lifetime, but
the greatest thing she taught me was to love others just as Christ loves you.

A new commandment I give to you,
That you love one another; as I have loved you . . .
John 13:34

Wishing you a Mother's day filled with memories & love . . .

House Plants

I enjoy having real green plants inside the house.
These plants were in my classroom & came home with me
when I retired 4 years ago.
Sometimes I put them on the deck during the summer.
I think this year I'll keep them inside.

In January I clipped a few pieces . . .
& put them in water for this table vignette.
They've grown roots & it's probably time to plant them in dirt.
I want to put an African violet in this kitchen window.
It would do well in this southern exposure window.

Did you know house plants can help fight colds & are a natural humidifier?

Crock Pot Magic

I'm attempting to use up what's in the freezer & pantry when I make meals for the next 30 days.
I love using the crock pot for easy meals.
This was super easy.
I put some leftover frozen smoked meat in the crock pot
 Tuesday morning.
Leftover ribs, bologna & pork loin.
I covered it with B-B-Q sauce, a little water
& set it on low for 8 hours.
Fall off the bone tender + green salad = delicious!

Summering Up The Mantel

I started playing around with the mantel decor this morning.
Time for a summery look.
red * white * blue
faux geraniums
I'm sure I'll add more as it gets closer
to Memorial Day weekend.
Maybe a red, white & blue bunting.

The Adventures Of Susan & Mike

Today I'm featuring a guest post by my sister, Susan.
She does not have a blog.
I keep telling her she should become a blogger.
She always sends me fun & interesting e-mails about
things going on in her corner of the world.

The Adventures Of Susan & Mike
Friday evening when Mike and I finished our walk we saw a flier on the windshield of our car.  My first thought was that somebody hit us and they left their insurance info, since that very thing happened to us a year ago.  What a relief to see that it was an invite to a MINI rally/Mushroom Festival.  We didn't consider going to it at first, but when we woke up early Saturday morning, we threw caution to the wind (should really say caution to humidity) and left our comfort zone and found ourselves meeting 11 other MINI Cooper owners on a town square in Richmond, MO where Morel Mushrooms were the focus.  To insure complete fungus enjoyment we wound up in queue for the parade.   One couple that owned the oldest MINI, 1981 Mayfair was intriguing to me.  He works 2 weeks on 2 weeks off for an Alaska gold mining company.  She is originally from London (love the accent).  She mentioned they own a 150 pound dog named Lloyd (love the 2 'L's) that will ride hunched over in the back seat.  I was told Lloyd is unaware that he is 150 Lbs.   (I too have resistance to owning up to my own weight.)   The humidity was extreme but it didn't dampen our spirit of being a "fun-guy" (fungi). ; )

While I was searching for info about the Richmond festival I discovered there are many mushroom festivals in the United States this time of year.

BTW, fried morel mushrooms are delicious!
Hubby fixed several batches a few weeks ago.
A friend, who is a mushroom hunter, shared with us.
