I've been hearing on the news that some experts
are saying that writing in cursive is obsolete.
Some school systems are taking it out of
their curriculum.
WHAT?!?!
Mrs. Young (3rd grade), Mrs. Jefferson (4th grade)
, & Mrs. Claude (5th grade) think about this news?
As a retired elementary teacher I'm sad to hear this.
To me cursive writing is an art form.
I can't help it. I'm old school, which means I'm old.
Oh well, the times are changing.

i like cursive writing also and my I want my kids to learn them.
maybe I' old school also. :)
I just heard a news story on that very subject last night. I'm definitely old school.
I, too love cursive writing. I guess I will have to teach my grandchildren.
I have to agree with you. All change is not for the best. Surely all of us of a certain age can see in our mind's eye the cursive charts across the top of the walls of our classsroom.
I love cursive writing, it's my only form of writing still. I am very saddened to hear it will no longer be required to learn in school.
I remember learning cursive using a real ink pen in fourth grade. Both of our sons were taught cursive in school but choose to print. I, too, think cursive is an art.
It's true that we barely pay attention to handwriting in general these days. On the other hand, there is research that says the more they understand the shapes of the letters the more fluently they will read. Hmmmm..we might be missing the boat a little.
I'm with you...old school all the way!!
I hadn't heard about that - and it seems incredible the experts think that cursive writing isn't necessary. Wow.
I read that today too and had a hard time believing it.
Your grandson is beautiful! I am enjoying reading your blog!
How sad! My cursive writing is not what it should be, but I still think it is a good thing to know. What about signing a signature?
I was not aware of this. When I write I usually print my letters. Is that even the correct term? However, I have been asked to address invitations to weddings because I my cursive style is pretty nice. I would not say I am a calligrapher by any stretch of the imagination. I am going to ask my daughter about this. See if it is happening here. She has a long term sub job until the end of the school year.

I'm with you, I think cursive is very pretty. I took caligraphy in college and I just loved it and I still use it today!
