it reminded me of the cake my friend, Margie,
made. She was a pastor's wife who could cook
up a storm.
This recipe begins on page 218 and ends on 220.
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Set aside.
Set aside.
1/2 buttermilk
(I didn't have buttermilk so I added 1 tablespoon vinegar to whole milk.)
2 large eggs
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Set aside.
melt 2 sticks of butter
add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder.
Whisk together to combine.
Meanwhile bring 1 cup water to a boil.
When the butter is melted pour the boiling
water in the pan. Allow to bubble for a moment,
then turn off the heat.
into the flour mixture.
Stir together for a moment to
cool the chocolate.
Stir together until smooth,
then pour into an ungreased
jelly roll pan or
rimmed baking sheet.
Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
While the cake is baking make the icing.
Melt 1 3/4 sticks butter in a sauce pan.
Add 4 tablespoons cocoa powder.
Stir until smooth.
Add 6 tablespoons milk,
1 teaspoon vanilla,
and 1 pound powdered sugar.
Stir together until combined.
I opted not to add pecans.
Immediately after removing the cake
from the oven, pour the warm icing over the top.
(oops, I forgot to hide the Oreos)
After waiting for the cake to cool
we taste tested the chocolaty goodness.
Delicious, just like Margie used to make!
Next week I'm hoping to try a PW recipe
that's not sweet. I'm not promising though.

This sounds just like my Texas Sheet Cake recipe and it looks like it too! Makes me want to make it right now...it is so good! Come say hi :D
My daughter got the PW cookbook and loves it! The cake sounds delish. Linda
Sounds delicious. Nice step by step photos. :-)
One of my very favorite cakes!!
That sure does look good! I love chocolate cake. I see you have keurig cups. I just bought one last month, love it! Oreos are a staple in the kitchen aren't they? It should be a law that every house should have a package in it at all times. I love original and double stuffed!

I love Pioneer Woman, great recipes! I just made and posted on my blog her sloppy joes, they were awesome! Thanks!
I'm with Julie... it seems that the recipe is a lot like my mom's Texas Sheet Cake recipe.
Another oldie and goodie recipe!!
Can't wait to see what you make next!
Have a wonderful day!
I LOVE those kind of cakes! Of course, chocolate cake with a chocolate icing is my ALL TIME favorite of ANY cake! YUM!!
I used to make that cake all the time. I may have to make it again one day next week.
So is it as good as it's supposed to be? I'm curious. I made the cinnamon rolls twice now and wow, they're so delicious!
Visiting from Tuesday Tastes!
Hi Carol! Oh, yum, this sounds so good! Looks good too! I haven't bought the PW Cookbook, maybe I should go get my tiny hands on one! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Now you're talking my language. I have a family recipe for Texas sheet cake (chocolate) and it always gets rave reviews. This one looks similar but not exactly the same. I wish I had some right now!
Wow that looks yummy! My hubby loves moist chocolate cake:)
YUUUUMMMMM! I adore chocolate cake, especially with the hot chocolate icing poured on top. Oh gracious, my butt is getting bigger just thinking about it. YUUM!
I'm with ya on the nuts - it totally takes away from the flavor of the chocolate.
Thanks for linking up to Tuesday Tastes! I have heard about this recipe and everyone always raves about it! Maybe it's time to give it a try!
Happy Day,
Jasey @ Crazy Daisy
Sure looks good
